🔬 Science Spotlight: Climbing Higher in Every Strand

Students are building momentum in Science, and their performance shows it!

🌱 In Life Science, 82% of students scored Level 2 or higher—exceeding the state average.
⚛️ In Physical Science, nearly 80% were at or near grade level.

✅ Strengths
• Strong engagement in biology and chemistry concepts
• Curiosity and observation skills are growing across classrooms

⚠️ Areas to Strengthen
• Only 7% of students reached full proficiency in science.
• Key next steps: boost reasoning, inquiry, and application of scientific methods.

👨‍👩‍👧 What Parents Can Do
• Visit museums, watch science videos, or do home experiments together.
• Ask your child questions that encourage thinking like a scientist: “Why do you think that happened?”
• Help them study vocabulary and processes used in labs.
• A consistent bedtime, full school days, and being on time are especially important on lab or test days.
• Every school day builds knowledge—help your child show up ready to explore.

📐 Math Spotlight: Growth in Focus

FWHS students are building stronger foundations in Mathematics—and it’s showing!

💥 In Data & Probability, 70% of students scored Level 2 or higher—outpacing the state’s 48%.

✅ Strengths
• Data and statistics are becoming strengths—students are connecting math to the real world.

⚠️ Areas to Strengthen
• In Algebraic Reasoning and Geometry, over 65% of students scored below grade level.
• No students yet reached proficiency in these areas, so targeted instruction is underway.

👨‍👩‍👧 What Parents Can Do
• Use everyday math: budgeting, cooking, or measuring while doing chores.
• Encourage a “growth mindset”: mistakes are how we learn!
• Use online tools like Khan Academy for extra help at home.
• Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and arrives to school on time—math takes mental focus and clarity.
• Help prioritize attendance—math builds day by day, and missing instruction can set students behind quickly.

📚 English Language Arts Spotlight: Reaching for Mastery!

Our students are finding their voice and rising in English Language Arts—and the data proves it!

🔵 70% of FWHS students scored at the Approaching level, compared to 41% statewide.
📝 In Writing, 59% of our students reached the top level—matching the state’s best!

✅ Strengths
• Writing is a standout area and has been a focus for many years—students are building strong written expression.
• Two-thirds of students are meeting expectations in text analysis.

⚠️ Areas to Strengthen
• In Comprehension, 37% of students scored below grade level—compared to 25% statewide.
• The next step is moving students from “approaching” to “proficient.”

👨‍👩‍👧 What Parents Can Do
• Read with your child daily—ask them to summarize and analyze what they read.
• Encourage writing through journaling or storytelling.
• Ask questions that stretch thinking: “Why do you think that happened?” or “What’s the author trying to say?”
• Ensure your child is well-rested and on time for school—focus and stamina start at home.
• Daily attendance matters—every missed class is a missed opportunity to build skills.
